Marist Brass has returned from the 2026 Australian National Band Championships in Brisbane with a brilliant second place in the D Grade Brass Band section
The result caps off an extraordinary period for the Bendigo ensemble, which also claimed back-to-back Victorian State Championship titles in 2024 and 2025. The band’s continued rise reflects a growing depth of talent and a renewed sense of confidence.
Band President John O’Connor said the performance in Brisbane showcased the band at its best.
“We had a fantastic time in Brisbane. The band played extremely well as a team, really lifting for each other across the whole weekend. To come away with second place again is a terrific result and something the whole group should be proud of,” Mr O’Connor said.
This year’s Nationals also featured a number of first-time competitors, adding to the excitement and sense of achievement.
“We were especially proud of the players experiencing their first national competition. They stepped up beautifully under pressure and contributed enormously to the overall performance,” Mr O’Connor said.
He also expressed heartfelt thanks to the community for helping make the trip possible.
“We want to sincerely thank all the community groups, businesses, and individuals who contributed — whether through donations, sponsorship, or items for our raffles. Every bit of support has been appreciated, and we are very grateful,” he said.
With Nationals now behind them, Marist Brass has quickly returned to rehearsal. The band is preparing for its important role in ANZAC Day ceremonies across Bendigo, while also gearing up for the Bendigo Competitions, where it will now compete in C Grade — a significant step up that reflects the band’s growing capability.
In addition, Marist Brass will be presenting a number of local performances in the coming months, continuing its commitment to sharing live music with the Bendigo community and showcasing the momentum built through its recent successes.
Marist Brass continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the region’s most vibrant and fast-developing ensembles, proudly representing the Bendigo and surrounding areas on the local, state and national stages.
