Marist Brass Claims Back-to-Back State Championship Title

By Claire McLean

Marist Brass Band has once again struck a triumphant chord, taking out first place in the D Grade Section of the Victorian State Band Championships, held last weekend in Bendigo. This marks the second consecutive year the band has claimed the title, reinforcing its reputation as one of the region’s rising musical ensembles.

The win comes hot on the heels of an impressive second-place finish at the Australian National Band Championships earlier this year, showcasing the band’s consistency and dedication to excellence on both state and national stages.

Marist Brass President John O’Connor praised the band’s performance.

“We’re thrilled with the result” Mr O’Connor said. “The band won every section of the competition, and the adjudicator specifically highlighted our performance and our attention to detail. It’s a testament to the hard work and commitment of every band member.”

Mr O’Connor said the band spent countless hours rehearsing in preparation for the championships, and the result reflects their passion and commitment. “A wave of pride and celebration swept through the band upon hearing the announcement,” he said.
Looking ahead, Marist Brass has a busy calendar of community engagements scheduled for the remainder of 2025, continuing its mission to bring high-quality brass music to local audiences.

The band is also preparing for a major milestone: a trip to Brisbane in 2026 to compete in the Australian National Band Championships, where they hope to build on their recent success. To help make the Brisbane trip a reality, Marist Brass is actively seeking sponsors and supporters for its 2026 Nationals campaign. Local businesses and individuals interested in supporting the band’s journey are encouraged to get in touch.

Marist Brass is currently welcoming new members of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned player or just starting out, the band offers a supportive and fun environment to grow musically and be part of a vibrant community.
