Bishop Shane's Pastoral visit to Tatura

From Friday 27 to Sunday 29 June, Tatura welcomed Bishop Shane to their parish, school and homes, as part of the diocesan Parish Visitation Program, a structured pastoral initiative to support reflection on all aspects of parish life – including strengths, hopes, concerns, and future direction. Debbie Worm shares the story.

Bishop Shane spent Friday afternoon visiting our Sacred Heart School – talking with the students, staff and school community. The students were really engaged and asked Bishop Shane some insightful questions. Later, Bishop Shane met with members of the Parish Pastoral Council and Finance Committee for a constructive discussion about parish life, followed by a shared evening meal.

On Saturday morning, parishioner, Trish Warnett ensured Bishop Shane and our parish priest, Fr Uday, had a nutritious breakfast before they set out to visit the sick and homebound, including residents at Moyola and Parkvilla Aged Care Facilities. These visits were deeply appreciated by all of our seniors who were able to meet with Bishop Shane and Fr Uday.

On Sunday, the parish celebrated the Feast of the Sacred Heart with Bishop Shane and Fr Uday. During Mass, altar server Hamish was recognised with a certificate of appreciation, and Deb Turvey, Parish Pastoral Council Chair, offered thanks and best wishes to Bishop Shane as he prepares to become Archbishop of Brisbane. A shared lunch followed, featuring a Sacred Heart cake by Sandra Dodd and a belated “Happy Birthday” sung for the Bishop’s recent 60th.

We take this opportunity to thank Bishop Shane, not only for his recent visit, but for all of the times he has blessed us with his presence in our Parish. It is truly appreciated and valued, and he will be sadly missed. Bishop Shane, we wish you well and will continue to keep you in our prayers as you prepare for the next part of your priestly journey as Archbishop of Brisbane. May God bless you and keep you safe and in good health.
